Kuwait- Sheikh Salman lauds GCC role in regional, int'l peace


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah on Sunday highlighted the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in maintaining peace and security regionally and internationally. "The GCC asserted itself in handling all developments in the region and maintaining its coherence amid changes in the region and beyond," he told reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony at the Argentinean Embassy to mark the country's National Day. Since its inception 33 years ago under a suggestion by the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Council has made big strides towards bringing the peoples of its member states closer to each other and preserving the regional security and stability, Sheikh Salman affirmed. He noted that the visit His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah plans to pay to Iran in early June will fall in the framework of the wise policy of His Highness the Amir for enhancing the regional stability and security. "The State of Kuwait and the Islamic Republic of Iran enjoy special ties on all levels and the visit of His Highness the Amir will give momentum to the bilateral ties," he pointed out, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the GCC and Iran for regional stability. Sheikh Salman added that Kuwait and Argentina share the desire to boost the bilateral ties, noting the conveyed the greetings of Kuwait to Argentine Republic on its national day.
