(MENAFN - Arab News) Lulu hypermarkets has launched a week long mango festival which continues till may 28.

er. thariq al-mulhim manager of agricultural extension department eastern province inaugurated the event on thursday.

'this time we are bringing the royal collection of mangoes from the royal orchards of the kings' farms" a lulu executive said. the collection includes varieties from bada bagh orchards which is managed by sayed ghani khan's family at kirugavulu in malavally taluk of karnataka state's mandya district.

regarding the arab world mango has an esteemed position among fruits in egypt since the pre-historic era. saudi arabia where mango is considered a dignified fruit is one of the largest mango importers from all over the world especially from india and pakistan.

the agricultural ministry in saudi arabia has been taking keen interest in developing the cultivation of mango in the southern region especially in and around jazan. in this festival lulu is exhibiting more than 10 varieties of mangoes from this region.

the festival features a wide range of mango based products. lulu's bakery department is exhibiting an exclusive range of mango products ranging from cake and bread to basboosa.

'fresh stocks of mangoes of different varieties from almost all mango producing countries have been imported for the festival. leading varieties of mangoes will be on sale at lulu hypermarkets in riyadh and alkhobar at highly moderate prices." rizwin razak buying manager for fruit and vegetables lulu saudi hypermarkets said.

'special varieties like alphonso known as king of mangoes kesar known as queen of mangoes thottapuri badami and rajapuri are being promoted throughout the festival" abdul saleem v.k. lulu's regional manager central province said.

the festival is taking place at more than 110 lulu outlets across the gulf.
