German economic growth doubles in Q1

(MENAFN) The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said that the country's economy has doubled its growth in the January-March period of 2014 driven by domestic demand, Xinhua reported. Europe's largest economy's GDP grew by 0.8 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period a year earlier, in which the economy increased by 0.4 percent. Data released showed that investment in construction sector jumped by 3.6 percent in the cited period, while household consumption increased by 0.7 percent on the fourth quarter of 2013. "Positive contributions were made by domestic demand only," said Destatis.
