(MENAFN - Arab News) Dhahran: the duo shahim koothradan and wahid salahuddin scored a thrilling win over derric gonsalves and koh liang feng to emerge champions in the men's premier flight section of the 18th federation cup invitational doubles badminton tournament.

the event organized by badminton federation of saudi arabia in collaboration with dhahran badminton association was held at junior high and ibis indoor courts which concluded in dhahran recently.

in the women's section jennivie moreno & abigail alar edged past sandra sakaria & deena saby in round robin competition to emerge winners. andrei nucom & jennivie moreno won the combination doubles while hipolito & baimen lahod finished runners-up

the tournament was conducted for 9 levels from beginners to professional in the men's events 5 levels in women's event 5 levels in combination events and 2 levels in junior vels.

over 500 players in the kingdom from riyadh and eastern province competed in this event. participants from various nationalities including india philippine indonesia malaysia canada us china and pakistan took part in the two-day event. bfsa president george puthenmadhom in his presidential address congratulated all the winners & runners up and thanked the sponsors for their support in hosting this event.

surendaran nair dba president along with his committee had supported bfsa in hosting this mega event in dba indoor courts. trophies to the winners and runners-up were awarded by bfsa and dba. the chairmen of the various committees included george puthenmadhom surendran nair sameer baikadi chacko john ki ansari meros mathew ashish cherian ishaq naseeruddin arif shamsuddin babu varghese ashrafulla sheikh and theres. the tournament directors were n.lakshmaiah saban babu and rejee peter.
