Index seminar covers aspects of interior design

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Held at index international design exhibition the largest event for the architect and design industry in the middle east and workspace at index this year?s programme of design talks featured 45 speakers across the two shows.

the free-to-attend seminars and workshops aimed at the region’s architecture design retail and hospitality communities covered a wide spectrum of topics relating to the interior design and architecture industry as part of index and workspace at index which concluded on thursday at the dubai world trade centre. the mena region’s leading trade shows for the residential and commercial interior design sector have hosted over 30 free-to-attend design talks sessions covering interior design topics since the show opened on monday.

in addition the exhibition concluded with the announcement of the winner of the sixth contemporary majlis design competition people’s choice award. ‘the global majlis’ designed by tangram gulf was chosen by 40 per cent of index visitors as the 2014 winner from among four finalist projects.

after receiving the award sandra woodall design director of tangram gulf said: “the design of the global majlis seeks to embody the uae’s disposition of openness to the world; a global majlis a focal destination with a long history of facilitating connections and pioneering new ideas.”

“all building materials and design elements are selected to reflect core preoccupations of sustainability. seating arrangements are inspired by the shape and flow of the desert dunes focused on a central divan shaped and contoured to form a representation of the uae surrounded by other countries” explained laila hankir interior designer at tangram gulf.

the majlis a traditional seating area featured in arabic interior design plays a significant role in arab culture and heritage. with the contemporary majlis design competition people’s choice award index offers design professionals the chance to rethink the majlis by giving it a contemporary avant-garde and green perspective.
