(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) With many outgoing ministers and members of parliament still in the process of shifting out of the accommodation provided to them in the capital the government has the tough task of finding places to stay for the newly-elected members of parliament (mp) who will start streaming into the city in the coming days.

the directorate of estates of the union ministry of urban development has made arrangements for transit accommodation here for the newly-elected members of the 16th lok sabha.

these include about 240 rooms in the guest houses of various state governments in delhi and about 180 rooms in the hotels owned by the public sector indian tourism development corporation (itdc) here. the new mps will be accommodated in these facilities till regular accommodation is arranged for them.

the ministry said on thursday that the details in this regard had been communicated to the lok sabha secretariat for making the actual allotment of rooms to the newly-elected mps. a majority of the members of the new lok sabha are first-time members of the house.

the former mps and union ministers who were members of the 15th lok sabha and could not get re-elected to the 16th lok sabha are entitled for retention of their existing government accommodation for a period of one month only from the date of dissolution of the 15th lok sabha or demission of office by the union ministers.

president pranab mukherjee dissolved the 15th lok sabha on may 18 on the advice of the union cabinet headed by outgoing prime minister manmohan singh after the united progressive alliance government was routed in the elections and the bharatiya janata party-led national democratic alliance was voted to power with an overwhelming majority. singh had submitted his resignation and that of his council of ministers on may 17 and the president has asked them to continue in office until a new government is in place.

bjp leader narendra modi will be sworn in as the new prime minister on may 26.
