UAE University Students Named 2014 Road Safety Ambassadors at FedEx Driving Skills Challenge

(MENAFNEditorial) FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world's largest express transportation company, announced the winners of the second annual FedEx Driving Skills Challenge. As part of a month long road safety campaign organized across five UAE universities, students competed on a makeshift driving track to be named the 2014 Road Safety Ambassador. Three males and three female students were presented with trophies for their skill to maneuver around the track safely and in record time. Officially named as the 2014 Road Safety Ambassadors, the male winners are Ibrahim Ibrahim from the Canadian University of Dubai and Khalid Ahmed Yousry and Mohamed Ahmad Foud from Al Ghurair University. The female winners are Nesrin Erar from the Canadian University of Dubai, Sara Arif from Al Ghurair University and Jawaher Mohammad from Zayed University. As ambassadors, they will be encouraging their peers to engage in safer driving practices. "The FedEx Driving Skills Challenge is our way of giving back to the community we live in by helping to create a safer environment for all," said David Ross, senior vice president of FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa operations. "Through this program we have reached over 1,000 students with both theoretical and practical training sessions about road safety. Armed with this new knowledge, we hope students feel more confident in their driving abilities when faced with difficult traffic conditions." The Driving Skills campaign took place at five universities: Heriot Watt University, the Canadian University of Dubai, Al Ghurair University and the Zayed University Men's and Women's Campuses. During the lectures they were guided through videos, presentations and live demonstrations to help improve the students' driving skills. All participants received certificates endorsed by Dubai Police and the winning students were selected based on their successful navigation of the course and ability to follow traffic guidelines. Ibrahim Ibrahim from Canadian University of Dubai, joined the FedEx Driving Skills Challenge for the first time and said, "I have always considered myself to be a strong driver but the lectures and driving challenge opened my eyes to new techniques that will prove useful in the future. I will be emphasizing the Safe Driving Triangle-which covers confidence, awareness and anticipation-to all of my family and friends." The FedEx Driving Skills Challenge was launched in 2013 by FedEx, organized by Ciel Marketing & Events and endorsed by Dubai Police, with the aim of increasing awareness regarding traffic safety among the youth of the UAE.
