Libya- ICC declares it has right to put Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi on trial

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Wednesday delivered its judgment confirming the decision of the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber declaring admissible the case against Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi. On May 31, 2013, Pre-Trial Chamber-I had rejected Libya's challenge to the admissibility of the case against Saif Al Islam Gaddafi and reminded Libya of its obligation to surrender the suspect to the Court at the Hague, noted an ICC press release today. Libya appealed this decision on June 7, 2013. The Appeals Chamber also rejected Libya's arguments that the Pre-Trial Chamber had made procedural errors when reaching its decision. On that basis, the Appeals Chamber confirmed the Pre-Trial Chamber's decision, according to which Gaddafi's case is admissible before the ICC. Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi is charged with two counts of crimes against humanity, murder and persecution, allegedly committed across Libya from 15 until at least 28 February 2011.
