Pakistan court summons 63 politicians over assets abroad


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The lahore high court (lhc) on tuesday issued notices to 63 politicians including prime minister nawaz sharif on a petition seeking a direction to ask them to bring back their foreign assets.

the court issued notices to the politicians to respond by june 16. it further ordered that the politicians who could not be informed should be notified through advertisements. the hearing of the case was subsequently adjourned to june 15.

the list of politicians summoned includes former president asif ali zardari punjab chief minister punjab shahbaz sharif pakistan tehreek-e-insaaf (pti) chairperson imran khan pti vice chairperson shah mehmood qureshi former premier and pml-q chief chaudhry shujaat hussain and pakistan people’s party patron-in-chief bilawal bhutto zardari.

barrister javed iqbal jafri had filed this petition originally in 1996 against 26 political leaders and later amended it adding more names of politicians to it. the petitioner in amended petition quoted finance minister ishaq dar that about $200 billion have been deposited by pakistanis in swiss banks.

according to the petitioner the respondent politicians had transferred millions to foreign countries through money laundering causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.
