Oman- PSM, branches to hold board polls

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) and its branches across Oman will hold board elections on May 25, 27 and 29.

A press release stated that the elections for 2014-16 will be held under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. ‘Muhammad Zia ul Haq Siddiqui, former chairman, board of directors, PSM and its branches in the sultanate will be the election commissioner while Irshad Ahmed, former principal, PSM will be the returning officer.

‘Only one parent per student will be eligible to vote. Fathers will have to show their residence cards and mothers, their passport and the Computerized National Identity Card to vote in these elections.'

According to the release, 19 parents are contesting for six posts in the PSM board of directors. ‘As many as 1,250 parents are eligible to vote in the election which will be held at the school's campus in Ruwi on May 29 from 7.30am to 6.30pm.'

The election for school management committee (SMC) in Salalah will take place on May 27. ‘Here, seven candidates are in the fray for four posts and voting will take place from 7.30am to 4.30pm.'

The elections for school management committees in Musannah and Sohar will take place on May 25. ‘Six candidates are in the fray for three positions in the Musannah SMC while an equal number of candidates are contesting for three posts in the Sohar SMC. In Musannah, 315 parents are eligible to take part in the election while 240 can do the same in Sohar. Voting will take place from 7.30am to 4.30pm.'

The release added that as there are only three candidates in the fray for an equal number of posts in the Nizwa branch, there will be no polls.
