(MENAFN- The Peninsula) United States is committed to further strengthening bilateral commercial relationship with Qatar, said Charles H Rivkin, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs while speaking to business leaders and American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar's (AmCham Qatar) board members. He also highlighted the importance of embassies and consulates in promoting business and economic opportunities for US companies abroad.
"Qatar remains one of the world's fastest growing economies in the world and we are committed to further strengthening our bilateral commercial relationship and to supporting business and innovation," Assistant Secretary Rivkin said.
The event, hosted by AmCham Qatar, provided an opportunity for the Assistant Secretary to hear about the opportunities and challenges of working in Qatar firsthand from representatives of American companies and to exchange ideas on how to strengthen the burgeoning US-Qatar bilateral trade relationship.
Rivkin's meet and greet is the latest in AmCham Qatar's ongoing programme of supporting and providing its members and the wider Qatar business community with a forum to discuss key industry related topics, to pursue common commercial interests between Qatar and the US.
US-Qatar total bilateral trade in goods reached $6.3bn in 2013, an increase of over $1bn compared to 2012 and $6.7bn greater than bilateral trade in 2000. Additionally, goods and services from the US now account for nearly 20 percent of Qatar's imports worldwide, making it Qatar's number one import trading partner.
Previously, AmCham Qatar hosted US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker at a special edition of its 'Distinguished Speaker Series,' held in partnership with the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce.
