sorting out the ballot papers started after the end of the five-day vote in the uae with the results to be announced soon.

shoaib abdel fattah media advisor at the egyptian embassy in abu dhabi said the number of voters had reached nearly 45000 in the first four days starting on thursday. about 21400 egyptian expatriates cast their vote at the embassy and the rest in the consulate.

the number of voters increased in the evening after government and private offices closed. egyptian organisations ran a fleet of buses daily providing voters free transport to and from the polling hubs in the capital and dubai.

the good samaritans also advised voters to have either a copy of their biometric passport or carry their national identity card while going to vote so that they would not be turned away.

abdel fattah praised the egyptian women living in the uae for their participation in the exercise. the women of egypt he stressed had always been in the front line of the nation’s march as borne out by history. they set an example doing their bit to ensure security and stability in egypt.

the persistence of elderly egyptian women and their patient endurance of hardships while casting their vote was especially exemplary he added. he cited the example of disabled women who resolutely arrived in wheelchairs or were carried in by their members to cast their vote.

“egyptians abroad did not require conferences or tv debates and discussions to take part in the elections and show the world their sense of patriotism” he said. “their participation stemmed from sincerity and patriotism.”

the presidential election in egypt will be held on may 26 and 27.
