(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US indicated Monday that it is closely monitoring developments in Tripoli and Benghazi and "remains very concerned about the violence" that erupted over the weekend.

On Sunday violence hit the capital of Trupoli after armed men attacked the country's interim parliament. According to state media, the lawmakers' session was already over for the day. On Friday in Benghazi fighting erupted and killed at least 70.

State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters, "We reiterate our call for all parties to refrain from violence and to seek resolution through peaceful means." President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have been receiving updates and are monitoring the security of their citizens serving overseas. There has been no decision to move any of their personnel out of Libya.

The US believes Libya, "cannot be overcome if its leaders don't settles differences through dialogue and work together." Psaki reiterated, "We're (the US) focused on helping to resolve the differences. We support, as you know, a democratic and peaceful means to bringing about stability in Libya, but there's a great deal of fluidity on the ground."
