825 workers arrested in Oman for Labour Law violations 239 deported


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As many as 825 workers have been arrested from across the country for Labour Law violations.

. A press release stated that raids conducted by the joint inspection team in the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) led to the arrest of 775 workers including 573 commercial workers, 90 agricultural labourers and 112 housemaids and their equivalents. 'Of these, 235 were absconders, 426 sacked workers and 69 of those referred by other bodies.'

Muscat governorate topped the list with 406 workers, followed by Batinah with 95. 'Concerned authorities in the ministry have already initiated legal action against them.'

Also, the ministry deported 239 workers for violating provisions of the Labour Law and ministerial decisions implementing the law.

Meanwhile the ministry's team affiliated to the Directorate General of Manpower in North Sharqiyah, in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and ROP arrested 50 more violators in the niyabats of Sinaw and Samad al Shan in the wilayat of Mudhaibi. 'Of these, six were absconders and 23 workers did not have valid work documents.'

Hilal al Hajri, acting head of the joint inspection team in North Sharqiyah said they could be fined or deported.
