Kuwait makes much headway in sponsorship revocation dossier

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait has achieved much progress towards the rescission of the Kafeel or sponsorship system applied in the country, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said here on Sunday. Speaking to reporters while opening a training course on the fight against human trafficking, held at the ministry, the chief of the ministry's follow-up and coordination department, said Kuwait was compiling a report on the human rights situation in the country as a prelude to submitting it to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in February. Kuwait is keen to fix any loophole or problem in national human rights law in order to find the optimum way to tackle the human rights issue in the country, he added. Asked about US claims concerning failure to bring those involved in human trafficking cases to accountability, the Foreign Ministry's official said: "Such claims are totally divorced from reality." On the training course, he said it is the second course to be co-organized by the ministry and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of a national plan to promote the role and efforts of the State of Kuwait in the human rights field.
