Malaysia's Economy Grows 6.2% in First Quarter

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ala lumpur may 17 (qna) - malaysia's economy registered a robust growth of 6.2% in the first quarter of 2014 compared with 5.1% growth registered in the fourth quarter of 2013.

the strong economic performance has beaten market and analysts expectation of 6% gross domestic product (gdp) growth as surveyed conducted to economists.

bank negara malaysia (bnm) in a press statement yesterday said the country's stellar economic performance in first quarter of 2014 was driven by a stronger expansion in domestic demand and a turnaround in net exports.

the central bank said global economic activity has expanded at a moderate pace in first quarter of 2014 .

bnm observed that the us economy in the first quarter experienced a slower growth due to unusually adverse weather conditions.

in the eurozone area bnm noted that the economic recovery was supported by modest improvements in exports while domestic demand remained sluggish due to structural constraints.

in the asian region the central bank said growth in several asian economies expanded at a slower pace as domestic demand was affected by country-specific developments. (qna)
