(MENAFN - Arab News) An orthodontist at a private clinic in jeddah has left the kingdom after breaking the upper incisors of a saudi patient.

'the orthodontist broke my teeth while he was trying to fix them" seif al-mutairi told arab news. 'he told me to come back the next day to correct his mistake but i was surprised to find that he had left the kingdom on vacation."

'i have filed a complaint against the clinic but there has been no response so far" he said. 'the clinic's director refused to refer me to another orthodontist saying that he cannot do anything for me.

'he claimed that individual dentists are responsible for following up on their own patients."

'i have already paid sr2500 which they are also refusing to refund" said al-mutairi.

arab news tried to contact the clinic's director but got no response.

'no one can file a case against a hospital or clinic without going through jeddah health affairs first" said sami badawood jeddah health affairs director.



'only we can investigate medical errors committed against patients and take action against violating hospitals and clinics" he said.

'the health ministry will conduct inspection rounds on suspicious facilities to prevent such mistakes from recurring" said badawood.

badawood said that the kingdom's health services are still struggling in terms of quality and risk management in comparison with other countries.

he made the statement during a convention on patient safety organized by king abdulaziz university hospital.

'our ministry has made great achievements in the area of health care" said badawood. 'there are already three hospitals in jeddah that have acquired quality accreditation from the joint commission international (jci) a commission that evaluates hospitals worldwide."

he said that hospitals with 100 to 200 beds are stepping up efforts to acquire approval via the central board of accreditation for healthcare institutions.
