(MENAFN - Arab News) Theft at jeddah's wedding halls is on the rise thanks to lax security at these venues.
five mobile phones and handbags were recently stolen from the ladies section of a wedding hall in jeddah while pricey gifts were stolen from the bride's room at another hall.
'the marriage hall was overcrowded and dinner was being served in the dining hall when the theft took place" said a guest.
employees may have stolen these items and approached the hall manager for help he said.
the hall manager found only two mobile phones and a small amount of cash among staff members.
'it is the responsibility of hall owners to take enough safety measures to prevent thefts" he said.
several guest say that theft has become commonplace. uzma mansour had her mobile phone stolen during her sister's wedding.
'my iphone 5 went missing along with my purse" she said. 'staff members denied involvement and few people were around at the time."
many thefts go unreported while others cannot be proven or pinned to staff members.
a similar incident took place at a wedding hall in jeddah. 'several gifts went missing" said khalid ahmed the bride's father. 'i discovered this when one of my family members asked me whether we liked their gift."
he later learned that several other wedding gifts had also gone missing. 'we were angry and upset when we found out that expensive gifts which were kept in the bride's dressing room in the hall had been stolen."
he informed the general manager and requested investigation of staff members since only they had visited the bride's room. the employees denied the allegations.
'it was a big loss. but with no evidence theft is hard to prove" he said. 'hall owners should ensure that these incidents are not repeated. they should have surveillance cameras at certain spots where people come and go and enhance safety at dressing rooms."
