German economy grows 0.8 percent in Q1


(MENAFN) Official data showed that the German economy expanded 0.8 percent in the first quarter of the current year, beating economists' expectations, Xinhua reported. According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the country's gross domestic product (GDP) increased only by 0.4 percent in the last quarter of 2013, adding that "the moderate growth rate of last year thus has increased." Economists estimated that Germany's economy would grow by 0.6 percent to 0.7 percent in the first quarter of 2014, while the German federal government forecasted that the economy would grow by 1.8 percent and 2 percent in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
