Iran Foreign Minister Says Much Work to be Done as Nuclear Talks Begin

representatives of iran the united states china russia britain france and germany plan to draft the text of a deal that would limit iran's contentious nuclear programme in exchange for lifting sanctions at the fourth round of negotiations being held here in the austrian capital.

iran's foreign minister mohammad javad zarif said a lot of effort was needed.



after a working dinner here last night with european union foreign policy chief catherine ashton zarif said the parties have agreed on the agenda of talks and he will seek the views of all representatives on the draft of the final agreement to find a solution to the nuclear issue.

this round of negotiations is more focused on drafting the final text however success depends on the goodwill and seriousness of the parties he added.



a bbc news report quoted a senior us official saying the talks would be "very very difficult" and there were still significant gaps between iran and the six world powers.

both sides hope to build on an interim deal agreed in november that saw iran curb uranium enrichment in return for sanctions relief.



the six nations want iran to scale back its nuclear activities permanently. iran insists its nuclear work is peaceful and wants the sanctions that have affected its economy to be removed. (qna)
