UN Security Council Condemns Killing of French Journalist


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ngui may 14 (qna) - the united nations security council wednesday condemned the killing of french journalist camille lepage in central african republic while the office of french president francois hollande said it will "use all means" to probe the "circumstances of this assassination".



lepage 26 was on duty reporting from the violence-racked central african republic.

a patrol of french peacekeeping troops found her body during the search of a vigilante group's vehicle in a western region of the country french authorities said.

the un security council said that "those responsible for the killing shall be held accountable." council members sent their condolences to the victim's family and underlined that according to international humanitarian law journalists in a conflict zone should be treated as civilians.



the council statement called on the central african republic government to investigate the incident.

"all necessary means will be employed to shed light on the circumstances of this assassination and to find our compatriot's murderers" the office of french president francois hollande said.

lepage worked as a photographer for paisian studio hans lucas. her killing comes six months after two french journalists for rfi radio were killed in mali. (qna)
