even the most congested airports can be a conducive place for travellers provided that these hubs can provide essential services that will improve passenger experience and facilitate their movements in a more comfortable manner a top regional official of lg electronics has said.

a number of methods can be considered to achieve this goal. among them is the signages vertical; while we are to a certain extent in a “generation where signages are being taken for granted” it is in fact a part of life and is actually burgeoning — a segment that the seoul-based technology giant is eager to harness its potential further.

“quality-conscious airports are implementing passenger-experience points as a benchmark and thus creating success stories” debojit das mea signage consulting head of the mea b2b signage team at lg electronics middle east and africa regional company told khaleej times during the opening day of the 14th airport show at the dubai international convention and exhibition centre on sunday.

he mentioned three factors that are needed to improve passenger experience: environment where an airport has to have all the right facilities; behaviour which gauges how travellers are being treated; and most importantly contextual information meaning having “the right information at the right point”.

“you could be at the most congested airport; but if you are treated well and you are provided with the right information at certain areas… the experience becomes very nice” das sums it up.

at the airport show lg electronics is showcasing its latest signage products and services for the industry. the company is introducing some of its most innovative concepts for “airports of the future” at the expo with an emphasis on enhancing passenger experience and movement.

“lg is helping airports and other verticals worldwide to bridge the gap between traditional media and online marketing by incorporating data-driven digital signage into their marketing strategies” lg electronics mea president kevin cha said in a statement.

with a portfolio ranging from the basic flight information display and massive video walls to identifying areas with less crowds — and even an interactive screen showing how you would look in a certain set of clothes — lg has it all covered das says and dubai international airport is a very good place to implement these services.

“dubai international has the right mix of technology people and infrastructure… that’s why it rates very very high” he said adding that he personally feels “very comfortable here because i find my way and get the services i need very easily.”

das further commended the airport’s expansion programme saying that it has come at the right time. “many [other] airports have failed to adequately do that. dubai has planned it beautifully and wonderfully.”

regional commitment

while lg’s solutions have been deployed in many airports around the world das said that the company has maintained its commitment in the middle east where lg has taken several steps forward in understanding the potential of the signage industry.

“we have a long-term commitment to this region as we see that there is sustainability in both our business and technology enterprise” he said. “we have a good visibility of the future; the segment is growing tremendously and the possibilities are enormous.”

to a question das stressed that lg has been working constantly with dubai international. in 2014 the company has won multi-billion dollar contracts to deploy signage screens at terminal 1 concourse d and dubai airport international hotel as well as in other areas across the mea region. aside from this lg has is also heavily-engaged with the airport’s marketing team to explore new ideas to enhance customer experience.

in abu dhabi international airport das said that lg is also looking into new concepts having participated in tenders for projects there especially at its midfield terminal complex. over at the newly-opened al maktoum international airport at dubai world central he says that lg has “plans to work very closely” with its authorities.

“while people may not be totally blown-out with signages the ease it brings to their experience makes them appreciate it” das said. “but there is still a lot to be done and lg will be there.”
