al jazira wrapped up their arabian gulf league campaign with a win over al sharjah at the mohammed bin zayed stadium late on saturday night.

the solitary goal victory over their former coach paulo bonamigo’s club ensured the ‘spiders’ of a top-three finish in uae’s top flight. al jazira finished with 45 points from 26 games and gave them temporary hold of second place.

al sharjah came close to equalising and taking the lead moments later but muhain khalifa muhain drilled it wide of the post. then ze carlos’ header missed the target after a gabriel cross from the right.

al sharjah continued in the same vein after the break but a goal remained elusive. yousif saeed juma and captain mauricio donizeti ramos couldn’t make the opportunities count. al jazira only attempt in the second half through substitute khalfan mubarak al rezzy but his effort hit the woodwork.

al sharjah finished seventh with 40 points. they won 10 lost 10 and drew six.
