French journalist found dead in Central African Republic

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French photojournalist Camille Lepage was found dead by a French military patrol in Central African Republic, and Paris is sending a police investigative mission to work with African forces to determine the circumstances of her death. Lepage, 26, is well known for her work as an independent photographer in developing countries and has done assignments for NGOs and for newspapers like French daily "Liberation." "The dead body of Mrs Lepage was found during a patrol by the Sangaris forces," - the French name for its operation in CAR - President Francois Hollande's office said Tuesday. The French presidency added that the body was discovered during a search of a vehicle driven by elements of the "Anti-Balaka" militia in the Bouar region. The "Anti-Balaka" militia is predominantly Christian and is accused of widespread brutality against the Muslim population of CAR and of seeking to carry out "ethnic cleansing" of Muslims in that country. "All means necessary will be put to work to shed light on the circumstances of this assassination and find the murderers of our compatriot," the President's statement said. Separately, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said that "those responsible must be brought to justice." Fabius warned "there can be no impunity for those who, through journalists, attack the fundamental freedom to inform and be informed."
