(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Businessmen who are not board members of the Qatar Chamber would be able to head internal committees representing the various economic sectors within the Chamber after the newly-elected office-bearers assume office later this month.
The Chamber announced yesterday it would undergo restructuring after the newly-elected team takes over and its internal committees that have always been headed by elected board members could then be chaired by businessmen. "Their efficiency and readiness to serve the sector would be the criteria for their selection," the Chamber said of the new policy to appoint the heads of its internal committees.
The Chamber has committees representing sectors such as trading, contracting, travel and tourism, services, banking and finance, among others, and their members are elected and are on the Chamber's board. The existing board members met on Monday and discussed a number of issues. It was decided that the above changes in the way the committees function were necessary in order to help the privates sector play its role in the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.
Monday's meeting severely criticised food inspectors and said judicial powers given to them were causing problems. People (a reference to those working in eateries and foodstuff stores) were being made to suffer moral and financial damage due to minor mistakes committed by them inadvertently, said the Chamber. The meeting also lambasted the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and Civil Defence and said businessmen were finding it difficult to access their online services. "They have made their services more difficult to access after they went online," the meeting noted of the electronic services of the civic ministry and civil defence.
The meeting was presided over by the Chamber's Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassem bin Mohamed Al Thani. In a statement issued yesterday, his deputy, Mohamed bin Ahmed Tawar Al Kuwari said the transactions of the civic ministry and civil defense have come down after the launch of the electronic services.
