the 225-issue nikkei stock average ended 275.92 points or 1.95 percent higher than monday at 14425.44 according to japan's (kyodo) news agency.
the broader topix index of all first section issues on the tokyo stock exchange finished 20.44 points or 1.77 percent higher at 1178.35.
