Amman Declaration underlines necessity to buttress social solidarity


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Arab social affairs ministers on Monday underlined necessity to buttress social solidarity among different segments in the Arab world through adopting strategies to counter challenges facing sustainable development. The ministers' assertion was enclosed in the (Amman Declaration) at the conclusion of the Arab conference on social priorities within the sustainable development agenda beyond 2015. The Declaration saw achieving peace and security in the Arab region as a main element to enable Arab countries carry on with their developmental plans, solidify its social fabric, and encourage the sense of national belonging and dialogue. It also highlighted that poverty was the most daunting challenge facing inclusive sustainable development in the Arab world. Furthermore, the Declaration called for focusing on socio-economic policies, adopting a more productive economy and expanding employment platform to limit unemployment, as well as providing swift solutions for the pending problems of housing, water and energy. Other issues highlighted by the Declaration included benefiting from Arab funds in financing developmental projects, encouraging investment in agricultural sector to secure food security, rehabilitating and training the unemployed in a bid to ease their way back into the job market and stressing the significant role the private sector can play in providing social security for children, women empowerment and reducing unemployment rates.
