Ban appoints first ever female UN Force Commander in UN history


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday appointed Major General Kristin Lund of Norway, who will take command of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in August as the first ever female Force Commander in UN history. She will replace Major General Chao Liu of China, to whom the Secretary General paid tribute for his dedication, professionalism and leadership, Ban's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at the daily press briefing. Ban also appointed Kim Bolduc of Canada as his Special Representative for Western Sahara. She will succeed Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber of Germany, to whom the Secretary General is also grateful for his strong leadership and dedicated service.
