(MENAFN - Arab News) Inspection teams of the ministry of commerce and industry (mci) have closed down a new factory in southern riyadh for using recycled and polluted sponge to manufacture mattresses and pillows local media said.
the sponge was reportedly collected from waste containers throughout the city and the products were marketed at highways to evade inspectors according to saudi press agency which said the owners of the warehouse have been summoned for further investigation.
during the raid inspectors found that workers used to fill pillow packs with recycled sponge and polyester products collected from waste containers and finally covered with plastic bags carrying turkish and american brands.
inspectors reportedly found many violations including lack of safety standards and unhygenic conditions for workers as a section of the warehouse was allocated for their residence spa said.
items confiscated included 350 sponge pieces 200 used pillows and 300 mattresses filled with polyester.
few days ago the ministry inspectors closed down a similar factory in the same district that was run by foreign workers. the store reportedly used to collect old sponge from waste containers to remanufacture and re-sell products as turkish and american brands.
