Foreign automakers' sales surge in Japan

(MENAFN) Foreign automakers, including Maserati SpA, Volkswagen AG, are scoring their best sales streak in years in Japan, as the economy improves and drivers like Taichi Matsukura try to stand out amid a sea of Toyotas, The Peninsula Qatar reported. Foreign automakers have struggled for a long time to compete in the Japanese market, as domestic models account for almost 90 percent of sales volume. According to the Japan Automobile Importers Association, the financial year ended March 31 witnessed selling 302,000 non-Japanese cars in the country, the most since 1997. In the year ending in March, foreign makers accounted for 8.8 percent of non-kei car sales, their highest share since the importer group started keeping records in 1989.
