Man City wins Premier League for fourth time in history


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Manchester City won the Premier League after beating West Ham United 2-0 in the final match of the season on Sunday, preventing Liverpool from winning the title, to secure the second title in three seasons. Manuel Pellegrini's men, playing before some 60,000 fans at the Etihad Stadium, began the clash fully determined to end the unpredictable season victorious, launching unscathing attacks against West Ham, with France international Samir Nasri scording the opener from outside the box in the 39th minute. The Citizens continued their pressing to advance their lead and indeed team captain, Belgium international Vincent Kompany, converted a rebound from a cornor kick in the 49th minute. West Ham tried to narrow the gap but all attempts were doomed to failure. Man City, ending the season with 86 points, won the Premier League in 1937, 1968, 2012 and 2014. Liverpool trailed with 84 points following their 2-1 victory over NewCastle. Chelsea settled at third after their 2-1 win over Cardiff, and then Arsenal with 79 points to occupy the final seat for the UEFA Champions League next season.
