(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Qais al Zakwani said the return of marathon swimming as a discipline at the fourth Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand from November 14-23, will be 'a good test for our swimmers'.
''We expect them to return with medals and we have a young core group of swimmers. In long-distance, swimmers excel as they grow older and many reach their peak between the age of 35-40 years. The good thing about our swimmers is they are young and they are psychologically better prepared to put in long hours of daily training. They swim regularly 12-15km each day and we are gradually building the momentum for them to go at the world level,'' said the top OSA official.
''Oman swimmers have only participated once at the FINA World Open Water Championship Series in 2012. It was just an opportunity in Dubai, UAE. But, we at the OSA are now charting out the path for their participation at more FINA events, like the World Cup and world series, hopefully from next year. Our boys still need time and I am sure, they will do well when the right time comes,'' said Zakwani.<
