Oman- 48 Labour Law violators held in Bidbid

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A joint inspection team from the Directorate General of Manpower in Dakhliyah governorate and ROP arrested 48 expatriate workers from the wilayat of Bidbid on Thursday for Labour Law violations.

Those arrested included 24 retrenched workers, 14 absconders and ten who did not have valid documents. Hilal bin Salem al Shuraiqi, assistant director of the joint inspection team in governorate's Directorate General of Manpower in the governorate said, ''The directorate exerts sustained efforts to regulate the labour market by arresting expatriates found violating the Labour Law.''

''Our endeavour is to put an end to the practice of recruiting expatriates who are abscondors, retrenched or infiltrators. We also want to stop hiring of expatriate workers in professions reserved for citizens,'' the assistant director said. Shuraiqi said common penalties for those found violating provision of Labour Law include arrest, deportation, imposing of fines and banning the violating company or facility from recruiting expatriate labourers for a year.<
