Oman, India likely to hold strategic talks in June


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman is likely to engage in strategic and political talks with India in New Delhi next month. ''These talks in New Delhi will draw a roadmap for political cooperation and exchanges forward,'' said Anil Wadhwa, secretary (East), Indian Ministry of External Affairs, in an e-mail interview with Muscat Daily.

Wadhwa said that later this year, India and Oman will also hold a joint commission meeting at the ministerial level. ''An entire gamut of bilateral economic projects and engagements will be discussed at this meeting. Oman and India have been steadily improving their ties, especially in the economic field. Our bilateral trade is expected to touch US$6bn this year. We are working closely on increasing investment both ways,'' he added.

About India-Oman Joint Investment Fund he said, ''Both sides are looking to boost the fund with infusion of further capital. Indian companies are looking for more projects in Oman.''

Wadhwa said focus is also on increasing cooperation in healthcare, IT, education, retail and other sectors. ''Duqm port has emerged as an attractive destination for Indian manufacturing companies.''
