(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Complaints made by patients against primary healthcare centres will be addressed by Primary Healthcare Corporation (PHCC), says a senior official.

Some patients complain against prolonged procedures, unfriendly reception and long waiting time, Marriam Yaseen, Executive Director, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, said yesterday.

"We often hold training sessions for our staff to provide best service for patients. They have been instructed to respond to patients in the right way," she added. However, she explained that some procedures have to be followed while consulting a physician and a long waiting time is mostly due to a high number of visitors.

Yaseen was speaking at a press conference at the PHCC headquarters to provide details about a campaign being held to educate people on services available at health centres.

PHCC is holding the month- long introductory campaign to build effective and positive relations with all communities.

The aim is to engage the community through the media coverage about the importance of providing primary healthcare to families as the first step to ensure their health.

The campaign also seeks to make people know how to prevent diseases and primary healthcare centres as first point of contact in case of illnesses.

"The campaign will educate people on how to prevent diseases and if they fall sick and need to see a physician the first place they should go to is a primary healthcare centre," said Safiullah Taye, Researcher, PHCC.

"The first step for a patient should be taken at a primary healthcare centre unless it's a case of emergency which needs secondary level treatment," he added.

Hamdi Blekich, Marketing Manager, Huda Mohsen, Public Relation and Media Manager, and Dr Hebah Abu Halawah, Head of Health Awareness, were present at the conference to explain about the campaign.

PHCC is operating through 21 primary healthcare centres distributed into three regions - central, western, and northern.

Seventeen new primary healthcare centres are coming up, including two which will be opening this year and five in 2015. Qatar Red Crescent will be in charge of operating primary healthcare centres being set up exclusively for low-income expat workers and other centres will be operated by PHCC.

PHCC provides dental, maternity services (ultrasound), vaccination, health education, pharmacy, X-ray, home care service, laboratory services, medical commission services and health promoting school programmes.
