Indian poets enthrall expats


(MENAFN- Arab News) Community members including poets and heads of various voluntary organizations called on the indian embassy to resume the tradition of holding mushaira (urdu poetry session) every year. the mushaira was last held in 2010.

the concern was raised during a poetry session 'ek shaam tahir bilal ke naam" (an evening dedicated to tahir bilal) on friday to appreciate the contribution of the indian poets to urdu literature.

bilal hails from hubli district in the indian state of karnataka and is working in the kingdom. he was awarded with the 'farzand-e-urdu" title.

organized by tanzeem hum hindustani (thh) the function was attended by about 400 people and which was moderated by mohammad liaqat. salim beig was the convener.

thh president mohammad quaiser said the huge indian community has few opportunities to enjoy such events. a poetry collection in urdu 'shahkar" by ashhar nadeemi a young poet from hyderabad who died recently was also released at the session.

the poets who enthralled the audience with their couplets included ayyub tishna rafique shaikh dawood aslubi waqar wamiq mirza salim beig khwaja masihuddin khurshidul hasan nayyar shaukat jamal sohail iqbal izharul haque izhar javed akhtar javed asadur rahman zafar abdur razzaque tabassum and tahir bilal.
