Sweat it out with a class of Tae Bo this week

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Energising explosive and simple to learn it?s a great time to get swinging with tae bo

sometimes the best way to work up a sweat is by putting on your fight face.

were you swept up in the tae bo phenomenon of the late ‘90s when it seemed like everyone and their mother was punching and kicking their way to a fitter lifestyle?

you’re not alone. founder and creator billy blanks managed to get millions of ordinary people hooked on his infectious routine that combines tae kwon do and kick-boxing in a high intensity workout. it’s been years since it first took over the fitness world but there’s still plenty to love about it.

my first tae bo class was as a pre-teen in middle school at a time when gym teachers were desperate to keep us interested in health. thanks to a flood of peppy infomercials and videos by blanks it was a challenge for us not to mock the routine for its “overly enthusiastic” moves. but even for a group of young cocky kids who preferred to hang out and socialise rather than get active during gym class tae bo was the one thing that managed to pique our collective interests.

step aerobics have been popular for ages but it wasn’t until tae bo arrived on the scene that it received a much-needed face-lift. the plan is aggressive semi-combative and opens the door to martial arts for anyone willing to throw a punch. with all the strange group exercises imposed on us kids back then you can see why it was an easy workout to love.

according to blanks who first developed the programme in the basement of his house in the ‘70s tae bo is a combination of self-awareness and martial arts mixing the focus and strength of boxing with the grace and rhythm of dance. it essentially trains you to respond mentally and physically to anything coming your way and for many people this has always been a major draw.

tae bo is usually taught in a studio but it’s also found life on dvds as well as youtube; what could be better than pressing play and getting your swing on in the comfort of your living room? the routine is especially popular because it provides an amazing cardiovascular workout (you can burn up to 900 calories in an hour) while enouraging movements that push you to release your inner warrior. anyone who’s tried and tested a group exercise class knows all about that inevitable and dreaded onset of boredom but tae bo manages to keep your adrenaline rushing throughout.

releasing your aggression can be a healthy part of your fitness lifestyle and there’s no doubt that tae bo does just that in a really fun and constructive way. if you’re looking for new motivating ways to lose weight and tone up it’s something worth a try. at the very least you’ll learn how to throw a mean uppercut.
