the model school sent the defending champions abu dhabi indian school (adis) packing in a sensational upset in the adcb abu dhabi u16 inter-school cricket tournament.

electing to bat first after winning the toss the model school posted 86 for seven in the truncated 15 over-a-side because of a delayed start and then restricted adis to 79 for eight to clinch victory by seven runs.

hafeez ur rahman hit a run-a-ball 24 while the bowlers ehsanullah amanullah mohammed shibil and ajmal noorudheen took two wickets each to get the model over the line. merryland international joined the model in the final after a resounding seven-wicket triumph over emirates future international school in the second semifinal.

hanzalah khan (23) and owais hassan (20) provided the perfect start with a 55-run stand for the opening wicket while umar zia hit a breezy 23 not out from 19 deliveries to see the team through with 21 deliveries to spare. efia were let down by indiscipline bowling as they conceded 37 extras of which 19 were for wide and four no-balls contributing significantly to merryland’s total.

efia’s top order contributed well with opener izhaan ahmed stroking 26 from 25 balls before falling when the score was 30. prithivi naik (21 off 38) and owais khan (40 off 33) added 48 for the second wicket. the tournament sponsored by abu dhabi commercial bank co-sponsored by uae exchange centre and conducted by the abu dhabi cricket council drew eight schools.
