(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Advisor at Kuwait's Amiri Diwan Abdullah Al-Maatouq opened, in the presence of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh, Kuwait's second model village for the Syrian refugees in Al-Zaatari refugee camp in Al-Mafraq Governorate, north Jordan, on Saturday evening.

The village, funded by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, consists of 1,000 caravans, two schools - one for boys and another for girls, a hospital, and a mosque, said Al-Maatouq who doubles as chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO).

"This is the second of the 10 model villages envisaged in a housing project; each of which will include 1,000 fully-equipped mobile homes for the Syrian refugees," Al-Maatouq, also UN Secretary General's Representative for Humanitarian Affairs, said in the opening ceremony He extolled His Highness the Amir for his generous contribution, and King Abdullah II of Jordan, for hosting the large numbers of Syrian refugees and facilitating the IICO relief efforts in the kingdom.

Dr. Al-Maatouq added that the project reaffirms Kuwait commitment towards, and solidarity with "our Syrian brothers.

"We seek to alleviate their suffering from the current ordeal and share them the hope for their safe return to their homes," he went on.

However, he noted that the humanitarian effort is not enough to put an end to the bloodshed in Syria which needs a political solution.

On her part, Al-Sabeeh, also Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs, reaffirmed Kuwait commitment to helping the Syrian refugees in Jordan and other countries in the region.

"His Highness the Amir offers robust backing to Kuwait's tremendous efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrians displaced by conflict," she added.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij said the launching of the village is funded by a generous Amiri donation and supervised by the IICO in collaboration with the embassy.

"The village provides room for up to 5,000 refugees and its two schools have a total occupancy of 8,000 students," he added.
Col. Ahmad Al-Manasra, commander of the refugee camp guard unit, said the Jordanian authorities spare no effort in helping the Syrian refugees and making their life easy.

Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the director of the refugee affairs dept. Brig. Qadhah Al-Humoud, Col. Al-Manasra appreciated Kuwait contributions to the relief effort for the refugees.
In the same vein, Killian Kleinschmidt, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) director of the refugee camp who prefers the title "Mayor of Zaatari," spoke highly of Kuwait contribution to the launching of such model villages.

The new village, built through a persona donation from His Highness the Amir, has two schools - each of which with an area of 1,240 square meters, a mosque over 620 square meters area and a 310 square-meter medical center.
