(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Registrations for the 2014 Sultan Qaboos Competition for Holy Q'uran Memorisation have started and will close on August 9. Organised every year by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, the contest is open to Omanis only.
The preliminary qualification round of the contest will begin on August 23.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Ibrahim al Sulaimani, media coordinator of the competition said, ''Those wanting to contest can log on to www.sqcic.gov.om to submit their entries. Participants can also take part by filling up application forms available with 22 coordinators spread across all governorates.''
The coordinators will keep participants posted about the competition in the preliminary stage which will be held in different governorates, he said.
Sulaimani said that while e-registration has been introduced this year, the preliminary stage and finals will be electronically assessed for the second year in a row. ''Marks awarded by three judges will be fed into a computer system which will tabulate them and pick winners.''
The organising committee recently held a meeting chaired by Ali Abdullah Salam al Saqri, manager and supervisor of the contest, Sulaimani and Mohsin al Manthari, a technical member of the committee and Said al Dhoyani, an administrative member to discuss details of the contest.
''Last year, as many as 670 Omanis took part in the competition. We have received more funding this time due to greater number of participation last year. We are expecting the number of contestants to exceed last year's,'' Sulaimani said
