(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) As part of its ongoing efforts to promote traditional cultural and sporting events in the Sultanate of Oman, Bank Sohar recently sponsored the fifth White Ahli Annual Camel Race 2014 in Barzman “ Sinaw (Al Abiadh Field) in wilayat of Mudhaibi. 

The eagerly awaited race was held under the auspices of H H Sayyid Taimoor bin Assad al Said. The event attracted a large number of participants from different wilayats in the Sharqiyah region and neighbouring villages. Also in attendance were several dignitaries and eminent persons who came to watch the popular traditional sport.

In addition, thousands of spectators watched the races and the prize distribution that followed. Representing Bank Sohar at the popular event was Saad al Shidhani, Bank Sohar's Sinaw branch manager. Highlighting the popularity of the event, Khamis al Rahby, AGM-branches, Bank Sohar said, ''Bank Sohar has always been a major supporter of Omani culture, and we are proud to be prevailing as sponsors for the Camel Race at Mudhaibi, which is amongst the most important events on our cultural calendar.

Not only does it demonstrate our commitment to support Oman's rich cultural heritage and national sporting culture, such sponsorships are also invaluable in promoting the sport and the competitive spirit of camel racing in the modern era.'' As noticed from the large number of participants in the race as well as the sizeable audience, the age-old sport of camel racing is well and truly alive today, with young people eager to learn the skills and traditions of camel racing.

In addition, there was also a section of the event dedicated to artefacts of heritage from Omani artisans as well as participation from folk groups. ''It was truly satisfying to watch such a large number of people attend the event, which I am sure will continue to attract people for many more generations to come,'' added Rahby. Bank Sohar's support for the camel race is in-line with its CSR strategy of promoting Oman's national heritage through activities such as traditional shooting competitions, horse racing, cultural shows, camel racing and more.

As an event, not only is camel racing one the most important traditional games, but it also promotes the key values of heritage, honour, competitiveness, excitement and celebrates the history and traditions of the region. The bank participates in such events to ensure that local traditions are kept alive and continue to exist. These events also propel the tourism sector's growth by further promoting the rich cultural heritage of the country
