Kuwait- Minister IOM official discuss labour issues


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait city may 3 (kuna): minister of social affairs and labor hind al- sabeeh praised the work being carried out in the country by the kuwait office of the international organization for migration (iom) after her meeting with its director eman erekat on saturday. the minister urged in a press statement after the meeting for closer cooperation between the iom and the ministry affirming the ministry's commitment to addressing the rights of expatriate workers and fighting human trafficking.

furthermore al-sabeeh noted that this commitment was manifested by the government law for expatriates working in the private sector and other laws in the pipeline adhering to the international standards for combatting human trafficking. she also applauded the work done by the iom kuwait office in training kuwaitis in the field of expatriate contractual workers and running shelters for abused housemaids and other exploited foreign workers.

she valued the cooperation by the ministry and the iom office in developing joint projects to improve the labor market in kuwait. on her part head of the iom office expressed her delight with the ministry's establishment of the public authority for manpower among whose task is to undertake the responsibilities of the ministry in supervising the employment of expatriates in the private and oil sectors and recruit foreign labor on behalf of employers. erekat condoned the separation of the public authority of manpower from the body of the ministry of social affairs and labor.
