(MENAFN - Arab News) A criminal court in jeddah has sentenced several suspects to terms ranging between eight months and 11 years in prison and fines of up to sr50000 for engaging in terrorist activities.

one man was sentenced to five years and fined sr 50000 for launching a website and publishing articles by a person involved in sedition in al-awamiyah in the eastern province.

he was also found guilty of publishing photos of demonstrations and distributing news reports and photos to evoke anti-government sentiment and create unrest.

most of the defendants have been banned from traveling abroad for periods equal to their prison terms.

another man was sentenced to six years in prison and a six-year travel ban after his release in addition to a sr50000 fine for engaging in anti-government activities including maintaining a website encouraging demonstrations and promoting inflammatory literature.

the court handed another man a five-year prison sentence and 75 lashes for having stored information on his computer promoting anarchy and dissidence.

the man was also found to have contact with another terror suspect who is wanted by police in addition to harboring suspects.

he was also found guilty of drug abuse and was found to be in possession of narcotic drugs such as amphetamine and hashish.

the lashes will be administered in one go and the suspect will not be allowed to travel abroad for five years following his release.

another suspect was sentenced to 11 years in prison for maintaining ties with terror suspects and extremists and for covering up for other suspects in addition to providing other forms of assistance to extremists who wanted to join fighters abroad.

the man is also charged with introducing terror suspects to financiers. another man has also been sentenced to 11 years in prison on several charges including bearing an affiliation to extremists who question the government in addition to providing financial aid and harboring wanted terrorists.

he was also found guilty of discouraging youth to take up government jobs. the last suspect was sentenced eight months and a five-year travel ban for terror-financing and helping saudi youth to travel to iraq to fight alongside terrorists.
