Half Moon Bay's sand thieves nabbed
(MENAFN- Arab News) The dhahran police in cooperation with the local municipality have seized 30 trucks and arrested several drivers for stealing sand from half moon bay beach one of the eastern province's most popular tourist attractions.
dhahran mayor saleh al-qurani said in a statement that the municipality has been conducting raids in various areas mainly at sites west of dammam and on king fahd international road.
he said the thieves were caught "red-handed" with the vehicles impounded for one month. the drivers face fines of up to sr90000 for each load.
al-qurani said the municipality was committed to stopping people from "stealing this national asset."
he said the thieves were causing a great deal of environmental damage with their illegal quarries.
al-qurani said the police arrested the perpetrators after extensive investigations. they were nabbed on abu hedriyah ebqaiq and airport roads. the police have also been conducting operations north of riyadh road and the gonan region in the eastern province.
meanwhile a delegation from the city recently attended a conference entitled 'work solutions for human resources" in turkey led by abdulaziz al-hafez director general of the municipality's financial and administrative affairs department.
the participants discussed job creation for young people in the private sector entrepreneurship education and skills training. several human resources experts participated in the conference.
the delegates also discussed private and public partnerships to create jobs for young people which the municipality hopes to use in its strategic plans.
