Chief of Sunken Ferry Operator Arrested


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) oul May 08 - The joint team of prosecution and police investigating the sinking of the Sewol arrested the chief executive of the company that operated the ferry.

The investigation team arrested 72-year-old Kim Han-sik of Chonghaejin Marine Company at his home on Thursday South Korean (KBS World) website reported.

Kim was arrested on charges of causing death by negligence and violating ship safety regulations. The court issued his arrest warrant on Wednesday.

Kim is suspected of ignoring the overloading of cargo on the Sewol which is speculated to have caused the sinking of the ferry and the deaths of hundreds of passengers.

The investigation team previously arrested four employees of Chonghaejin Marine on similar charges.
