Bad Weather Hampers Search for Missing Passengers


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) oul May 08 - Bad weather is hampering search efforts on Thursday for the missing passengers of the sunken Sewol ferry (KBS World) reported.

Currents were forecast to be weak until Saturday but unfavorable weather conditions have created high waves stalling search efforts.

Earlier divers were unable to carry out search operations for even an hour due to the high waves.

The death toll from the ferry sinking remains at 269 with 35 still unaccounted for as of Thursday morning.

The joint search and rescue team comprised of civilians government officials and military plan to comb through the cabins and main aisles on the third and fourth floors of the ferry on Thursday.

Search and rescue workers will also search the fourth floor of the boat's stern.

Nets have been placed at the accident site to prevent bodies from being carried away. Divers will also search surrounding waters to look for missing passengers.
