Oman- Apollo's International Medical Centre appoints endocrinologist

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The term hypothyroidism is no more just a medical term used by doctors. It has now become a household term establishing the fact that issues pertaining to the thyroid gland are quite common nowadays. Hypothyroidism is a disorder in which thyroid hormones are not produced in sufficient quantity. This is a relatively common disorder especially among women. Some of the symptoms of this disorder include weight gain, tiredness, neck swelling, constipation, irregular and heavy menstrual flow, infertility, intolerance to cold, hair loss, depression and mood swing. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which thyroid hormone is produced in excess.

The symptoms include weight loss, tremors, fast heart beat, anxiety, absent or scanty periods etc. If left untreated, thyroid disorders can lead to serious health problems including heart disorders. In Oman, hypothyroidism is quite common. Thyroid swellings and nodules are another common disorder which is prevalent in the community.
