(MENAFN - Arab News) E ministry of education has announced that schools in the kingdom must ensure that their staff stays until the end of the academic year 2014 and that exams and vacations be held according to schedule. the ministry's statement published in a local daily outlines that teachers will not be allowed to take an early vacation even with a medical leave before the academic year ends. schools are also barred from conducting exams early and from closing the school prior to the due date.according to the statement the annual summer vacation is due to start from jun. 19 to aug. 24 for a period of 67 days as it has every year.on the other hand parents are pressing the schools and teachers to hold exams early this year and to close the establishments before the said dates amid fears of the rising number of coronavirus cases in the kingdom.in a response to this schools have already taken some measures of reducing the number of school hours in the day while some schools are planning to hold exams starting may 18 the end of may or the first week of june.'the schools are scheduling their exams for all the students at once starting may 18 until the first week of june but the school will continue till the end of the academic year" rabia a parent of a child studying in an international school said.schools have also taken other precautionary measures such as cancelation of school assemblies and field trips in a bid to keep the virus at bay. other voluntary arrangements include installing sanitizers in schools distribution of face masks to teachers and students and circulating awareness materials on cleanliness and the deadly coronavirus.'we have taken the necessary measures to protect our students from any type of disease including the cancelation of gatherings such as assemblies and distribution of awareness materials to students. teachers also give lectures on how to maintain personal hygiene. so there is no reason why the school cannot close at the stated date of june 19" said farhat naeem vice principal of the pakistan international school jeddah.novel international school has scheduled its vacation from june 24 to aug. 30 according to their academic calendar. the school is due to open on aug. 31.dr. padma hariharan director and head of novel international group of institutions said that all safety measures were in place to ensure a clean and disease-free environment for the teachers and students.
