(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Ahlibank launched its new mobile banking application at a ceremony held under the auspices of Dr Salim al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority (ITA), at its headquarters in Wattayah on Wednesday.

The app is engineered to function with numerous phone models and operating systems. The time-saving application enables clients to conduct comprehensive banking transactions previously limited to the online or in-branch medium.

''This initiative of the bank to provide services via mobile phones strengthens the government's efforts in creating a digital society and providing electronic services which spell convenience to customers,'' Dr Ruzaiqi said.

Lloyd Maddock, CEO of Ahlibank, said that the launch of the mobile banking service consolidates Ahlibank's position as a market leader in the use of technology-led financial service products.

''It is in line with our philosophy of meeting our customers' financial needs by not only offering innovative products and services but also delivering them in a way which is both convenient and secure," Maddock added.

Free to download through the Google app and the iTunes store, customers can now view balances and transactions of their personal accounts (whether current, savings, term deposit or loan account), transfer money locally or internationally, make bill payments, and request a host of other services - from ordering cheque books to blocking their ATM card, if lost or stolen. Customers can also keep track of recent transactions made on their credit cards and make a repayment of latest statement balance.

The bank has also incorporated the latest security features available for mobile transactions in the application. The features include a one-time password (OTP), which is a password that is valid for only one login session or transaction. While conducting a transaction the mobile number which is registered with the bank and linked to the customer's account will receive an OTP to carry out that specific transaction.
