Indian SC clears decks for June 2 formation of Telangana


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Th the apex court refusing the stay the decks have cleared for the birth of telangana as the 29th state of the indian republic.virtually slamming the doors on the faces of those seeking to stall the division of andhra pradesh the supreme court has refused to stay the ongoing process of bifurcation and adjourned the hearing on a batch of 24 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the andhra pradesh reorganisation bill to august 20.a three-member bench comprising justices h.l. dattu m.y. eqbal and s.a. bobde while dismissing the plea for stay on the bifurcation process issued notices to the federal government to file its counter within six weeks. among the petitioners are former chief minister n. kiran kumar reddy and telugu desam party’s p. keshav who contended that the bill lacked constitutional validity.with the apex court refusing the stay the decks have cleared for the birth of telangana as the 29th state of the indian republic on june 2 the ‘appointed day’ announced by the union home ministry.the telangana rashtra samithi (trs) which led the separate statehood movement for 13 years on the other hand is seeking to get the high court to direct the federal government to advance the ‘appointed day’ for creation of telangana to may 16. the pink party’s line of argument is that it would be unconstitutional to keep the legislatures waiting after the announcement of results on may 16.the trs politbureau member g. jagadish reddy tried to move a house motion on monday in this regard but he was told by the authorities to file it on tuesday. the matter is likely to be heard by a vacation bench headed by justice r. subhash reddy on may 8.meanwhile the state governor e.s.l. narasimhan has reportedly directed officials to complete the formalities for the bifurcation of the state by may 15 a day before the general election results would be out country-wide including andhra pradesh.narasimhan while accepting the recommendations of a high-level committee on the state’s division pertaining to schedules 9 and 10 of the bill on monday impressed upon the officials that all works and formalities related to the bifurcation should be completed by may 15 and that he doesn’t expect a spill over after that date.according to sources it was decided to immediately go through the division process of 20 corporations based on the essential services they offer and revenue generation. these corporations include transport electricity housing seeds distributions among others.chief secretary dr p.k. mohanty who was also present at the meeting informed the governor that under schedule 10 22 government departments were important for both the states and hence should be divided along with the parent department.news?khaleejtimes.com for more news from khaleej times follow us on facebook at facebook.com/khaleejtimes and on twitter at ?khaleejtimes follow ?khaleejtimes -->
